Kurt Schwitters in Western Norway

Kurt Schwitters in Western Norway

Product Information
KURT SCHWITTERS IN WESTERN NORWAY - LETTERS FRON AN OUTSIDER
In the 1920's Kurt Schwitters was a leading light in the German Dada movement and many other radical art groups. His bizarre MERZ collages, sound poetry and love of nature set him apart from his contemporaries.
In 1937 he was branded a "Degenerate Artist" and was forced to flee Germany.
Schwitters sought refuge in Norway, and developed an extraordinary living space in a tiny rustic hut on the West Coast. This film concentrates on his time in Western Norway using quotes from letters and prose pieces as well as his naturalistic paintings and collage works.
He fled Norway when the German army invaded and eventually settled in the Lake District working on his "Merzbarn" until his death in 1948.
